Thought for the day on fintech disruption

October 2, 2017

Fintech is not disrupting the bank system.  The great financial crisis of 2008 disrupted the banking system.  Followed by Brexit, Donald Trump, stagnant wages, and rising inequality.  The banking system is a dead man walking.

One thing that I find really weird about banking conferences is that everyone is still in this bubble and no one seems to be connecting what is happening with bitcoin, ICO’s and cryptocurrencies with the “real world” where people hate the banks and where the established political and economic systems are burning.

One thing that is good about the Hong Kong government is that someone has made the connection with trying to create new jobs with fintech and trying to reduce social turmoil and a repeat of Occupy and blunting student radicalism.
